Regent Asks No More Oil Spill in Waters of Thousand Islands

Thousand Islands Regent, Junaedi asked for no more oil spill in the waters of Thousand Islands.

It must not be repeated. PHE ONWJ must solve this problem immediately

He conveyed it when receiving audience from representatives of PT. Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North West Java (PHE ONWJ) regarding oil spill that polluted coastal areas of Untung Jawa Island and Panggang Island.

He assessed, oil spill was not only detrimental to residents, but also endangered marine ecosystem. Moreover, Thousand Islands has been designated as National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN).

Residents Affected by Oil Spill must Be Compensated, Regent Says

"It must be handled quickly thus pollution does not spread and endanger marine ecosystem in Thousand Island waters," he stated after hearing, at Mitra Praja Building, Sunter, North Jakarta, Wednesday (4/28).

He explained, Thousand Islands Government and residents had even moved quickly to clean up this oil spill.

"It must not be repeated. PHE ONWJ must solve this problem immediately. Including compensation for the affected sides, such as fishermen, fish farmers, shrimp farmers, marine ecosystem and tourist areas," he asserted.

PT. PHE ONWJ Corporate Secretary Sub-Holding Upstream, Wisnu Badriansyah said, regarding oil spill handling, his side has given assistance in cleaning and transporting the oil waste.

"We have sent PPE to personnel, provided boats to transport waste, and prepared compensation. For recovery, we will do post-handling of the oil spill," he mentioned.

On the other hand, PT. PHE ONWJ Manager Communications, Relations and CID, Hari Setyono added, his side has deployed 13 boats to handle oil spill.

"All resources of PT. PHE ONWJ will be optimized to handle this oil spill," he closed.
